Francisco and I had breakfast at the Pier 39 outlet of Boudin Bakery. Boudin has been around since Gold Rush times and is famous for its sourdough bread. Breakfast was terrible (not unexpected for Pier 39 dining). I had sourdough French toast with cinnamon, sugar, whipper butter, and syrup served with season fruit. The French toast tasted reheated. I got a chocolate croissant because it really good in the case. With tax and tip, it cost $5 and it was lousy.
Things got better for lunch. We wet back to the same fried seafood place on Fisherman’s Wharf I went to for 2nd lunch on Day 1. Once again, I had fried calamari with fries. It was just as good as it was on Day 1.
For dinner, I ate at the bar at the Buena Vista, a Fisherman’s Wharf joint famous for its Irish Coffee. I figured it was going to be a tourist trap. But the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious! To start, I had mushroom soup.
For the main course, I got crab quiche. Mmm, mmm, good!
After dinner, I scaled Russian Hill and went to a San Francisco landmark–the original location of Swensen’s, San Francisco’s famous ice cream shop. Shockingly, I didn’t write down what flavor I got. Rest assured it was chocolate-something. It was pretty good. Swensen’s opened on Russian Hill in 1948. I think Swensen’s time has passed. It can’t compete with today’s modern premium ice cream shops.
