I’ve bounced back many, many times between the Northeast and the West Coast. But now I’m here for good. I’ve done the Southern California thing, but now I’m a San Franciscan. The West Coast culture is very different from East Coast attitudes, especially when you compare Southern California and my place of origin, Boston. Things are a little looser out west. San Francisco is probably the one place on the West Coast that has a feel a little similar to that on the West Coast. Maybe that’s why I’m happy here. It’s the best of both worlds, or both coasts, to be specific.
Of course there’s more to the West Coast than California. There’s also the Pacific Northwest–i.e., Oregon and Washington. I’ve never been to Oregon. And I’ve spent 2 nights in Washington. The 1st time was for work. The 2nd time was because my flight to Shanghai via Seattle was canceled and I had to stay overnight. Clearly, I’ve got a lot of exploring to do in the Northwest.
No matter where you are on the West Coast, I love how the mountains come right down to the ocean. The best of both worlds, indeed!
