I started off the day with a meat bun. Not sure what kind of meat is was. But does it matter when it’s in this format?
In Taiwan, and particularly in Taroko National Park, they take their iced tea seriously!
Pancake strips and ice cream? How do you say “Yum!” in Mandarin?
When I got to Tianxiang in Taroko National Park, it was time for my 1st real meal of the day. I was ready for a feast. I dined at the type of little Taiwanese hole-in-the-wall I had learned to love. I started off with a simple order of fried noodles.
For the main course, I got something different–sauteed boar meat. Boar is a local specialty. It tasted like particuarly good beef. I got a side of dumplings to top things off.
Back in Taipei that night, I went to very famous dumpling restaurant Din Tai Fung and got their very famous xiaolongbao (soup dumplings). These would be not unlike the soup dumplings I got on my 1st night in Shanghai in 2015. I made it a complete meal with fried rice on the side.
Okay, the food was good. But after all the authentic Taiwanese food I had gotten over my 5 days in Taiwan so far at real holes-in-the-wall, this place felt a little touristy by comparison. The dumplings even came with instructions on how to eat them! But this changes nothing. The food in Taiwan is fantastic!
After dinner, I finished off the day’s superb dining with taro panna cotta. Sweet!
