I got my 1st meal on Day 11 during the DMZ tour. We got taken to a place with a buffet. You might remember that I’m a very picky eater, so I just took from the buffet whatever I thought my delicate palate could handle and made a meal of it. My pickings are pictured here.
That evening in Gangnam, I went to a restaurant famous for chicken galbi, a very spicy stir-fried rice dish. A fun thing about the restaurant is that your dinner is cooked right in front of you at the table. So of course I documented the process for you.
The waiter brought over the ingredients to cook up my dinner. One plate contained the rice, chicken, a pepper paste, and seaweed.
The waiter started off by heating the oil and then adding scallions and a pepper sauce.
Once the scallions were tender, the other ingredients were added.
When everything was cooked, a strikingly tasty stir-fried rice dish was ready for me to dig into.
Let me tell you something. It was the spiciest food I’ve ever eaten. It put the food I had on my 2017 trip to India to shame. It had to be 10 times spicier than the spiciest food I had in India. It was quite tasty. But I have to be honest. Finishing the whole thing was a chore. It felt a little like work. But I was determined to finish the job. I would not be defeated! I successfully got through the entire meal. In 4 days, my Korean dining had come a long way from the bland dumplings I had on my 1st night in Seoul!
