After my experience the previous morning, I skipped the breakfast buffet at the hotel. So by late in the morning, I was pretty hungry. I walked past an open-air storefront where these small patties were being pan-fried. Looked pretty good!
I stopped in and ordered some to go. They took quite a while to prepare. When they were finally done, they had been smothered in some kind of sauce. I tried, but it just wasn’t going to happen. I held on to the bag till later when a beggar approached me. I gave him my food. He seemed pleased about it.
Later, when I got out of my tuk-tuk at Raj Ghat, I saw some men eating frozen bars that look quite refreshing at that point. I went over to the street vendor and ordered a melon bar. I was right. Very refreshing on a warm Indian afternoon.
By mid-afternoon, I was starving. Fortunately, the Red Fort had a very welcome snack bar. I ordered chicken momos, and they really hit the spot. What are momos? They’re dumplings. So I basically got Chinese food in India and I loved it.
The picture above is my dinner in my first-class berth on my train to Jodhpur. If you know me well enough, you can guess what I ate: the rice. And it was fabulous, let me tell you.
My delectable dinner came with the above. I thought it was some kind of desiccant. For what, I don’t know. When I took a close look at the label, I realized it was a package of denture cleansing tablets. Beats me!
Here’s a bonus picture. A pic of me and my 1st-class berthmate. His company made up for the not-quite-1st-class dinner.
Cheers!
