One of the reasons why I loved the Hotel Pearl Palace in Jaipur was the fabulous Peacock Rooftop Restaurant. (My hotel in Jodhpur also had a nice rooftop restaurant, where I had a very filling dinner.)
Before I headed out for my 1st day of sightseeing in colorful Jaipur, I headed up to the rooftop for breakfast. I started off with aloo parantha (flatbread stuffed with potatoes and spices). I washed it down with The Red One–a refreshing smoothie made with pomegranate juice, watermelon juice, chia seeds, and mint. YUM!! I was still hungry, so I got a “breakfast dessert” of Nutella toast. I was carbo-loading for a big day of sightseeing, obviously.
In the middle of my day of sightseeing in the Pink City, I came across a stand doing a brisk business of selling lassi (India’s famous yogurt shake) served in clay cups. It really hit the spot and made for a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of central Jaipur. It felt weird to throw away the clay cup. But that’s how it was done.
I took another break from sightseeing with a vegetable turnover. (I’m guessing “samosa” was the proper Indian name for it.)
After a long day of sightseeing, I had a delightful dinner at a nearby restaurant. I started with steamed chicken momos. As I learned at the snack bar at the Red Fort in Delhi, momos are just dumplings by another name.
Next up was an order of malai chicken tikka, chunks of chicken grilled after being marinated in a yogurt-mint sauce. Mmmmmm!
Of course, I had to load up on carbs, so I got an order of bajra roti. You may know that roti is a type of flatbread. Bajra is Hindi for pearl millet, the grain used to make the bread. Whatever you call it, I liked it!
I got dessert back at the fabulous rooftop restaurant at the Hotel Pearl Palace. And how could I resist the darsan with vanilla ice cream? It looks like some sort of apple dessert, but it’s a dish called honey noodles. I washed it down with my 2nd lassi of the day, a banana one. Mmmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmmm.
I must say, overall, Day 4 was a very good day!
