It felt like I was blogging about my trip to India forever. And I have to be honest. India made such an impression on me, I remember it more vividly than I remember my more recent trips, including a few more seasons of sightseeing around San Francisco and the Bay Area. But I’m sure the pictures will jog my memory.
At the end of the 2016 sightseeing season in San Francisco, I saw of lot of the best of what the city has to offer. But I knew that there was one really fabulous site that lay ahead in 2017–Golden Gate Park. So I started off the 2017 season by spending the entire 1st day exploring the park. But there’s so much to see there, I went back for more on Day 2. I also spent a good part of Day 2 visiting Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco’s famous hippie enclave from the ’60s.
During the 2017 season, especially on Day 2 and Day 3, I took in some incredible views. I really wasn’t prepared for how stunning they would be. It didn’t hurt that I got some spectacular weather on my sightseeing days. Very un-San-Francisco-like. On Day 4 I took in some very quirky only-in-San-Francisco attractions that make the city unique. You might like them. Or you might be shocked by them. Maybe both!
Even though I had immersed myself in Asian culture in my past several international sightseeing trips, I was enthralled with the exhibits at the Asian Art Museum. And as much as I enjoyed the art at San Francisco’s 2 fine arts museums, the de Young and the Legion of Honor in 2017, I’m glad I also stopped by some of San Francisco’s smaller museums in South of Market.
On the last regularly scheduled sightseeing day of the season, I took my show on the road and headed down to San Jose. (You might be surprised to learn that San Jose has a bigger population than densely packed but very compact San Francisco.) This excursion was a sign of things to come. I spent the 2018 season exploring the Bay Area beyond San Francisco. (But we’ll get to that another time.)
And you bet I had lots of great food–and of course, lots of great ice cream(!)–along the way. I promise, you’ve got lots to look forward to.

Ah yes, the traditional goofiness. A selfie I took at the San Francisco Zoo:
