First thing on my last day in Sacramento, I got a chocolate croissant and a banana at my hotel’s coffee bar. It was about time I got a chocolate croissant, right?
Alright, I got something a bit more interesting for lunch. I went to a Mexican restaurant in Old Sacramento. If you know me, you know I’m not a fan of Mexican food, other than maybe a quesadilla. (You might recall that I managed to have a good lunch at a Mexican restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission District back in 2016.) But when I’m traveling, I make a point of trying things I wouldn’t normally eat at home. So Mexican it was. Specifically, chipotle shrimp–shrimp sautéed in a chipotle adobo sauce, served with cilantro-lime rice and a side garden salad with lime dressing.
Let me tell you, those shrimp were SPICY! It was the spiciest meal I’d had since the crazy spicy chicken dish I’d had in Seoul the year before. But it was tasty. I was glad I ventured out of my comfort zone and into the Mexican zone. But back home in San Francisco the next day, there was something to remind me of the meal. My GI tract got very over-excited. I wondered what the heck was going on inside me. Then I remembered the super-spicy Mexican dish I’d had in Sacramento the day before Yes, that was definitely the culprit.
And with that thought in your minds, I leave 2019 behind. I’ll soon be back with further excursions into Northern California in 2022.
