I started off the day with a strawberry danish at Caffè Trieste in North Beach. (It can’t always be a chocolate croissant!)
As on Day 1, I grabbed a slice of pizza in North Beach for lunch. It was maybe a little better than Day 1’s slice. Also as on Day 1, I had second lunch. This time, it was a second slice of pizza in North Beach later in the day. It was probably the best of the 3.
While I was bar-hopping in North Beach, I got a bite at Tosca Cafe. They were only serving antipasti in the afternoon when I was there. I passed on the pressed pig ears and got the fennel.
Of course I had to go Italian in North Beach for dinner. I went to Caffe Sport. It’s a real old-style Italian place with plastic grapes and wine bottles in wicker hanging from the ceiling.
For an appetizer, I got Zucchine al’ Vapore–steamed Zucchini with garlic sauce and lemon juice.
I got Homemade Ravioli di Granchio–hand-made squid-ink striped ravioli filled with Dungeness crab meat served with cream sauce and Parmigiano. It was good. It would have been a lot better if it had been warmer.
After dinner, I went around the corner to Gelateria Naia for some gelato. I didn’t write down what flavor I got. Maybe it was strawberry. What’s important is that is was really, really good! Probably the culinary highlight of the day.
