San Francisco 2018, Special Edition

Randall Museum

On my day of Haight & Hills in San Francisco in 2017, I visited Corona Heights.  The Randall Museum, nestled on the southern slope on Corona Heights, was closed for renovations.  I really wanted to visit it, so joined by my friend Kevin, I returned to Corona Heights after the museum reopened in 2018.

Gimme 5!

The Randall Museum is a very small museum of science, nature, and arts run by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.

While the Randall Museum was closed for renovations during 2015-2017, some of its animal exhibits were on temporary display in the Mission. But I wanted to wait to see the whole museum after it reopened.

The model railroad is one of the most popular exhibits at the Randall Museum. It was built by the Golden Gate Model Railroad Club. The railroad has been operating in the basement of the Randall Museum since 1961.
There’s something about a train that’s magic, right?
Firemen to the rescue!
Butterfly swirls.
Skeleton of a California sea lion.
A crabby crab.
Cross section of a starfish.
Turtles on the move. Blink and you’ll miss ’em!

Making new friends.
The Randall Museum’s sweet raccoon was orphaned at a young age. Unable to survive in the wild, he was severely injured by other animals and most of his tail had to be amputated. He now lives a happy life at the Randall Museum.

And that was my last official sightseeing visit in San Francisco.  (That doesn’t count my 9/11 20th anniversary hike along the Crosstown Trail.)
