I had my 1st meal of the day at a funky restaurant and lounge adjacent to the Reina Sofía Museum. I got what I soon found out was a staple of Spanish cuisine–croquettes, or croquetas, as they’re known in Spain. I may have gotten the croquettes made with cured beef from León. But I’m not 100% sure.
After my sightseeing day was over, I met my local friend Paco for dinner. He brought me to a Basque restaurant where we ate outside. It was definitely a good introduction to Spanish regional cuisine. Guess what I got for an appetizer. Croquettes! I think these ones were made with ham. But don’t hold me to it. (I was getting a little nervous I was going to be living on croquettes for the trip.)
I remember what I had for my main course because I felt guilty about it. I had that upsetting visit to the bullring in the afternoon. But for dinner, I got the fighting bull tail stew. I know, total hypocrite. I just really wanted to try it. I enjoyed it through the guilt.
I’m not a fan of octopus. I’ve just never cared for it. But Paco loves it. So he got this colorful octopus dish.
A wonderful dinner with a good friend. Definitely a good way to end a day that had some highs and lows.
