I was so surprised the night before by how good the food was at the restaurant at the hotel in restaurant. The good food kept coming throughout Day 11. I had a fantastic breakfast back at the hotel restaurant in the morning. Just look at what I got from the buffet! I had bread & butter, sauteed vegetables, stuffed parantha (fried flatbread), aloo bonda (potato fritters), masala poha (spiced rice), and vermicelli upma (spiced noodle breakfast dish). Sounds good, doesn’t it!
India 2017 Food Diary, Day 10, Part 2
Having wrapped up my sightseeing in Rishikesh, it was time for a snack at the fabulous Ganga Kinare hotel before heading to my next destination. (Of course, I never made it to my next destination.) A slice of apple pie sounded really good, but they were out. A brownie with ice cream was a more than reasonable substitute.
I quenched my thirst with a mock mojito. I was a little nervous about the ice cubes. The waiter assured me they were made from purified [Read more…]
India 2017 Food Diary, Day 10, Part 1
I never break the Food Diary into parts. But I think Day 10 is my only India post broken up into parts. And my Day 10 dining could easily be broken into parts matching the parts of the day. You’ll see. So…
I skipped breakfast in the morning because I got a late start to the day and I needed to make up lost time after my delayed arrival in Rishikesh on Day 9.
It took me a while to find my lunch spot, and I was thrilled to finally arrive at The 60s Cafe, also known as Beatles Cafe. Rishikesh is where the Beatles came in 1968 to get all spiritual. This fun restaurant pays tribute to their visit and the spirit of the 60s. It has beautiful views of the Ganges too.
India 2017 Food Diary, Day 9
Day 9 felt like a disaster when it began. I comforted myself at bloomsrooms with a traditional American breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast.
When I got to Rishikesh several hours later, I was ready to dig in to some yummy vegetarian food. As Rishikesh is a holy Hindu city, it is vegetarian by law. (Vegetarian, not vegan.)
I was starving when I checked into the fabulous Ganga Kinare. I chowed down on rice, bread & butter, and strawberry & blueberry yogurt. That was to tide me along until I had dinner that night.
Dinner was a casual affair. I had a grilled cheese, followed by a veggie cutlet with fries.
India 2017 Food Diary, Day 8
According to my notes, I started off my Indian birthday with a vegetable turnover. I didn’t take a picture, and I have no recollection of it. So you just have to use your imagination. I bet it was pretty good though.
In the middle of my day of sightseeing in South Delhi, I had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant in an area of Delhi called Defence Colony. (It was originally built for the homes of military officers and veterans.) The waiter brought over some condiments that I didn’t make much use of.
A strawberry sparkling soda sounding really refreshing after a morning trekking around the Mehrauli area. I freaked out when it came because it had ice in it. Drinking ice made from tap water [Read more…]
